Burleson, Texas, Deputy Director of Parks
Burleson Recreation Center (BRiCk) Location: Burleson, TX 76028 Department: Parks/Athletic Field Maintenance Job Status: Full-Time Rate of Pay: Up to - $130,000 D.O.E.
This position supports the City's mission, vision, values and strategic plan initiatives, and works alongside the department Director to develop and implement department-wide goals, objectives, policies and priorities. The Deputy Parks Director oversees park operations and planning, city-wide facilities landscaping, sports complexes, trails, rights of way, and medians. This position is responsible for the annual budget of the parks and athletic field maintenance departments, park planning, and park capital projects monitoring expenses to ensure they are within an adopted program of service, and manages and performs duties required to provide quality parks and trails within the city. NECESSARY KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: • Knowledge of park funding, budget development and implementation. • Ability to assess department needs, develop solutions, project manage and lead strategic development plans through implementation. • Knowledge of asset management and assessment systems with preference in assigned area. • Knowledge of construction, carpentry, turf maintenance and spray pesticides. • Knowledge of irrigation systems including installation and layout. • Knowledge of proper chemical mixtures for pesticides/herbicides. • Ability to be a self-starter and work independently. • Must be analytical and detail oriented. • Intermediate to advanced knowledge of personal computer operations and the Microsoft Office suite of software (i.e. Word, Excel, etc.) • Excellent communication skills both orally and in writing including proficient listening skills, rules of grammar, practices of document preparation, and conveying information in a concise, tactful, professional manner. • Ability to work effectively with other departments in planning and developing. • Must have polished and proven people skills with a focus of being able to interact well with a diverse population and provide excellent customer service both internally and externally. • Skill in public speaking and ability to make effective presentations to a variety of audiences. • Ability to effectively lead and supervise personnel as assigned. • Ability to manage conflicts with staff and the public.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: • Bachelor's degree in business administration, parks and recreation, park administration or a closely related field. • Six (6) years or more of increasingly responsible experience in parks administration, operations, maintenance, and planning or related administrative experience • Three (3) years management/supervisory experience. • Experienced in performance management, change management, budget management, and enterprise cost recovery. • Any combination of education, experience, and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities may be considered. • Master’s degree preferred. • Public sector experience preferred. CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES REQUIRED: • Class C Driver’s License with good driving record.
